Feast of Tabernacles
By
Pastor Fred Porter
Some of this information taken from Matthew Henry’s commentary
1.) The meaningfullness of their beginning, and the low and desolate state out of which God brought forth that people. Note: Those that are wealthy ought often to call to mind their former financial state, when they were but common and poor in their own eyes. 2.) The mercy of God to them, that, when they dwelt in temporary dwellings, God not only set up a tempory dwelling for Himself among them, but, with the utmost care and tenderness imaginable, hung a canopy over them, this was the cloud that sheltered them from the heat of the sun. God’s former grace to us and our fathers should be kept in everlasting remembrance. The eighth day was a separate holiday, it was the great day which immediately followed this holiday, because then they returned to their own houses again, and remembered how that, while they had long lived in tents in the wilderness, at length they came to a wonderful place in the land of promise, where they dwelt in fine houses. And they would appreciate and be thankful for the comforts and conveniences of their houses after they had been dwelling seven days in temporary dwellings. It is good for those that have plenty and comfort to learn what it means to endure the hardness of living in temporary dwellings.
They were to keep this holiday while rejoicing befrore God for all the blessings God has given this year; however, the emphasis is that Israel’s life rested upon redemption which in its ultimate meaning is the forgiveness of sin. This fact separates this holiday from the harvest festivals of the neighboring nations whose roots lay in the pagan rites of the false gods.
Do you see or has any church ever taught you what this holy day means. Pastors will tell you that the old
holy days no longer need to be kept. The apostle Paul and all the other apostles kept all the holy days of God, So when you understand what they really mean how could a person not celebrate them. This Feast of Tabernacles described above if you will read it .
#1 tells us of a day we were lost and dead in the spirit.
#2 God sent Moses to rescue them God sent Christ to rescue us.
God made an 8th day to celebrate the new heavens and the new earth , When Christ will step down and
turn everything back to the Father. We will leave these tempory bodies(tabernacles) and put on new permenant wonderful bodies(tabernacles) .
Those that have the testimony of Jesus and keep the commandments of God before Jesus return will already be in these new bodies (tabernacles) .Revelation 12:17 Most of the days that the modern churchs celebrate are substitutes and frauds, and are made to keep you from celebrating God's true Holydays in truth. It is true Jesus did fill them to the full And now we keep them in a different way with the knowlege of the blessing God the Father has given us through His beloved son Jesus the Christ.
