You may be older today than you have ever been before, but you are younger than you will ever be again.
Philippians 3: 13-14… but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
I ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward-to Jesus. I m off and running and I m not turning back.
The Present is what slips by us while we re pondering the past and worrying about the future.
Three sons left home, went out on their own and prospered. Getting back together, they discussed the gifts they were able to give their elderly Mother.
The first said, "I built a big house for our Mother." The second said, "I sent her a Mercedes with a driver." The third smiled and said, "I've got you both beat. You remember how Mom enjoyed reading the Bible? And you know she can't see very well any more. I sent her a remarkable parrot that recites the entire Bible. It took Elders in the church 12 years to teach him. He's one of a kind. Mama just has to name the chapter and verse, and the parrot recites it."
Soon thereafter, Mom sent out her letters of thanks: "Milton," she wrote one son, "the house you built is so huge. I live in only one room, but I have to clean the whole house."
"Gerald," she wrote to another, "I am too old to travel any more. My eyesight isn't what it used to be. I stay most of the time at home, so I rarely use the Mercedes. And the driver is so rude!"
"Dearest Donald," she wrote to her third son, "you have the good sense to know what your Mother likes. The colorful chicken was delicious!"
Randy, college student, to younger brother: "Hey David, do you want me to tell you a narrative?"
David, "what's a narrative?"
Randy, "a narrative is a tale."
That night when going to bed, Randy asked, "Shall I extinguish the light?"
David, "what does extinguish mean?"
Randy, "Extinguish means to put out."
A few days later, David asked Randy, as a dog walked into the house, "Randy, do you want me to take the dog by the narrative and extinguish him?"
Susie's husband had been slipping in and out of a coma for several months. Things looked grim, but she was by his bedside every single day. One day as he slipped back into consciousness, he motioned for her to come close to him. She pulled the chair close to the bed and leaned her ear close to be able to hear him.
"You know" he whispered, his eyes filling with tears, "you have been with me through all the bad times. When I got fired, you stuck right beside me. When my business went under, there you were. When we lost the house, you were there. When I got shot, you stuck with me. When my health started failing, you were still by my side. "And you know what?"
"What, dear?" she asked gently, smiling to herself.
"I think you're bad luck."
